Established in 1995, the vision for MALI was to create a premier yet affordable language education center for Yemen's youth and aspiring professionals alike. The concept originated with Mr. Mazen Shawqi, whose experience as a trainer with several international companies in Yemen underscored the critical need for accessible and effective English language instruction. Having grown up and been educated in London, Mr. Shawqi brought a unique perspective and blend to this endeavor.

Mr. Shawqi collaborated with experienced native English-speaking educators, including program supervisors from leading U.S. universities, as well as Yemeni EFL professionals. MALI forged strategic partnerships with leading universities in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand, known for their exceptional ESL programs. These partnerships have facilitated the exchange of expertise and the recruitment of highly skilled ESL professionals. The cornerstone of MALI's academic excellence is its curriculum, meticulously developed by seasoned American and British instructors with a collective 32 years of ESL teaching experience in the Arab region.

To ensure sustained excellence, MALI prioritizes the continuous professional development of its instructors. Yemeni instructors benefited from regular training conducted by international ESL experts, coupled with rigorous administrative and academic oversight, ensuring the maintenance of consistently high standards. Furthermore, MALI has established pathways for students to achieve globally recognized ESL qualifications, including TOEFL and University of Cambridge certifications, enhancing their academic and professional opportunities.

Despite the formidable challenges posed by Yemen's prolonged political and economic instability, including the impact of two civil wars, MALI has demonstrated unwavering resilience and continues to flourish and expand its reach. While challenges remain, such as the inability to bring in native speaking instructors, massive inflation, and the collapse of the currency, MALI remains committed to its mission and looks forward to expanding its positive impact on education in Yemen.
